Use case: Ramp up your deliveries use-case-ramp-up-your-deliveries

When transitioning to a new email service provider, IP address, or email domain or subdomain, build trust with email providers to ensure messages reach recipients’ inboxes. This process, called IP warming, gradually establishes your reputation as a sender. Without completing this step, emails may be blocked or sent to spam. Learn more about increasing your reputation with IP warming in the Deliverability Best Practice Guide.

To implement IP warming effectively, use 51ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Journey Optimizer to incrementally increase the number of email deliveries. For additional insights, see Optimizing deliverability in Journey Optimizer.

This use case explains how to create a journey to gradually increase email deliveries. Follow these steps to configure the journey:

  1. Create a journey.
Create a new journey in 51ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Journey Optimizer. See Creating journeys for more information.

  2. Add a Condition activity to the journey.
Use the Condition activity to define rules that determine how profiles proceed through the journey. See Condition activity for more details.

  3. Set the maximum number of recipients for your delivery.

    1. In the Condition activity settings, set the Type field to Profile cap.

The Profile cap limits the number of profiles that can proceed through a specific path in the journey. See Profile cap for more details.

    2. Set the Limit field to the maximum number of recipients for this delivery.

For example, if starting with a small batch of recipients, set the limit to 500 profiles. Gradually increase this limit over time to include more subscribers as your IP reputation improves.

Increasing the limit incrementally helps warm up your IP address while maintaining deliverability.

  4. Add an Email action activity to the nominal path.
Place the Email action activity immediately after the Condition activity. This ensures emails are sent to profiles that pass the defined limit.

When the journey runs, emails will be sent to profiles entering the journey, up to the maximum limit specified in the Condition activity. Profiles exceeding this limit will follow an alternate path, which you can configure based on your strategy.

  5. Complete the journey with additional activities of your choice.
Add other activities, such as logging actions or sending notifications, to enhance the journey and ensure it aligns with your goals.

After completing the IP warming process and establishing your email reputation, remove the Condition activity. This allows emails to be sent to your entire subscriber list without limitations.
